The short answer

Set the eSIM up at home over Wi-Fi, before the flight, inside 30 days of the purchase. Scan the order page's QR code, give the line a name, and leave it off until you land. Once the eSIM is added, do not delete it: a QR code generally allows one install only.

Before you scan

Two requirements before you start: eSIM support built in, and no carrier lock; the phone check walks through both. Connect to Wi-Fi: the phone downloads the eSIM from the internet, and Apple asks for Wi-Fi or a hotspot while it does.

Scan the QR code

Bring the order page up on a second screen, or put the QR code on paper. The moment payment lands, the code shows on screen and remains on that page, so bookmark the link. On an iPhone the path is Settings, then Cellular, then Add eSIM; scan from there. Android phones add the eSIM in the SIM settings: on Samsung that is Connections, then SIM manager; on Pixel, Network & internet, then SIMs. A camera that refuses the code is no dead end: key the details in from the order page.

After it is added

Give the line a name you will recognise, such as Vietnam. It stays switched off until landing, and it must not be deleted: the QR code generally allows one install only. On landing, follow switch it on after landing.

If it fails (Install the eSIM)

A scan that fails or an install that halts: stay on Wi-Fi and retry once. If failure repeats, contact the store’s support with your order page link and phone model before another attempt.

Still stuck?

Orders, QR codes and refunds are handled by VietSIM support. Write with the link to your order page and your phone model.
