Vietnam's mobile networks, and the one your eSIM uses
Vietnam's four networks, compared from their own publications: what each one sells today, and how to tell which network is carrying your eSIM.
- Four networks
- 5G from Viettel, VinaPhone and MobiFone
- 2G switched off in September 2026

The short answer
Vietnam has four networks travellers meet: Viettel, VinaPhone, MobiFone and Vietnamobile. Viettel, VinaPhone and MobiFone sell 5G and eSIM; Vietnamobile is the country's private network, with base stations in all 34 provinces and cities. The plans on this site run on Viettel, VinaPhone or MobiFone, and each plan names its network before you pay.

What the networks say about themselves
The four networks’ own sites are the base of this comparison. Viettel Telecom, a branch of the military industry and telecom group Viettel, sells its mobile tariffs in 4G and 5G groups and carries the 5G coverage list on its 5G site. VinaPhone is VNPT’s mobile network, with 5G running since 20 December 2024, and its eSIM is set up at VNPT transaction points or in the My VNPT app. MobiFone has run a network since 1993, sells 5G packages and sets up eSIM at its stores or in the My MobiFone app. Vietnamobile describes itself as the private network, with base stations in all 34 provinces and cities.
How to see the network on your phone
When the eSIM line connects, that network’s name shows up beside it: under Settings, then Cellular (or Mobile service) on an iPhone, and in Android’s SIM settings. Two entries sit in that list, one per line: your usual SIM and the eSIM.
2G has gone: what your phone needs
Vietnamobile stopped its 2G service on 15 September 2026, and the Ministry of Science and Technology’s nationwide notice on the 2G switch-off is dated 16 September 2026. A phone with 4G or 5G keeps working, so check that your phone supports 4G before you fly.
