The short answer

Vietnam's country code is +84. From abroad, dial +84 and drop the first 0 of the number: a mobile written 09X XXX XXXX becomes +84 9X XXX XXXX. To call another country from Vietnam, dial 00, or + on a mobile, then the country code. A Vietnamese mobile has ten digits at home, nine after +84.

  • +84 is the country code; the 0 in front is the trunk prefix, dropped from abroad.
  • Mobiles at home: ten digits, starting 03, 05, 07, 08 or 09.
  • Calling out of Vietnam: 00, or + on a mobile, then the country code.
  • A Vietnamese SIM identity starts 8984; its network identity starts with 452.

A SIM's serial number begins with 89, for telecom, then 84, the country code. Vietnamese issuers sit in the 89 84 range.

  • Old numbers

Eleven-digit numbers beginning 01 became ten digits in 2018: 0162 became 032, and 0120 became 070. If a saved number starts +84 1, ask for the current one.
